Staro Rīga - Rhythm of the intermediate state
2024
Staro Rīga is an annual light festival held in Riga, Latvia, where artists, designers, and technologists transform public spaces with large-scale light installations, projections, and interactive works. The festival celebrates Riga's urban landscape through contemporary light art, often emphasizing creativity, innovation, and public engagement. It typically takes place in November and attracts both local and international participants. This piece consists of 12 traffic light replicas, arranged in a circle. A light passes from one module to the next one, infinitely running in a circle. The idea behind it is that we live in constant motion, rarely finding time to simply be ourselves. The installation blends different states of the everyday life into a uniform, harmonious flow, creating a permanent intermediate state where one can be oneself, apprehensive of the environment, and find beauty in the ordinary.
